All official printed versions of BC Statutes and regulations are published by the Queen’s Printer by Act of Parliament, and are available from Crown Publications. We also offer a convenience copy service, to learn more contact QP LegalEze customer service.

Statutes (Acts)

QP LegalEze provides access to an early consolidation of all the current BC Statutes (more than 650) including Private, Special and Local Acts. New and recently amended legislation is published in the current (early) consolidation, so that you don’t have to wait for the official printed version. Updates are made continuously as legislation comes into force. You can search for all new and recently amended Statutes using the Field Search option, or link to the Statute you want from the List of Updated Statutes. New and amended wording is highlighted in green.QP LegalEze also offers fully searchable archived consolidations of Statutes going back to 1991.

Note: A Statute consolidation is a published collection of all Statutes (Acts) from a given time period (usually about a year), in which the substance of any amendments have been included and blended into the original. A consolidation gives a snapshot view of all Statutes as they appeared at the end of the given time period. The current (early) consolidation on QP LegalEze provides access to Statutes that have been amended or come into force since the last official print consolidation was published, with new and changed wording highlighted in green.

List of Updated Statutes and Regulations

The List of Updated Statutes provides a complete listing of new and recently amended Statutes and Regulations that have come into force since the last print (loose-leaf) consolidation. The list is updated continuously as Statutes and Regulations come into force.

Archived Statute Consolidations

All Statute consolidations since the 1991 Statute Revision are available in a searchable format on QP LegalEze. They are based on the official loose-leaf print versions of Statute consolidations.

Point-in-Time Tables

These tables links users to the original wording of an Act/Regulation or section of an Act/Regulation, before amendments were made. It includes data for Acts from September 2000 and data for Regulations from September 2009.

Tables of Legislative Changes

This table assists with tracking the legislative history of individual Acts, noting whether enactments or changes are “in force” or “not in force”. The table indicates the Section of the Act affected by changes; the nature of the changes (e.g. amended, repealed); the enactment making the changes; how the changes are to come into force, and the date they come into force. The first edition table provides details on changes made from January 1, 1997 to December 31, 2004. The second edition table provides details on changes from January 1, 2005 to the present.

Historical Table

This table provides information similar to the Tables of Legislative Changes, for Statute consolidations from 1979 to the 1996 Revision.

Supplement (where applicable)

Supplements include the full text of Statute amendments which were enacted but not in force on December 31, 1996, the date of the last Statute Revision. Supplements are found inside the folders of individual Acts for consolidations after 1996.

Consolidated Provisions-in-Force

A complete, cross-referenced, alphabetical listing of Acts passed during a particular sitting of the Legislative Assembly. Provisions-in-Force include the following information: Act title, Bill number, citation, which provisions of the Bill affect the named Act, whether the legislation comes into force on Royal Assent or by Regulation, and the corresponding effective dates. This listing includes data from 1997 to present.

Table of Statutes - Repealed, Replaced and Renamed

This table assists with tracking outdated legislation. It covers public Statutes since 1897 that have been repealed and not replaced; repealed and replaced by an Act with a different title; or Acts that have been re-titled either by amendment of the Legislature or during revision.

Acts and Ministry Responsible

Under the Constitution Act, responsibility for the administration of all public Statutes (and some private and local Statutes) are assigned to one or more government Ministries. Statues and their designated Ministries are listed by Act title and by Ministry.

Bills

QP LegalEze provides the full text of all Government, Private and Members’ Bills, including First Reading, Amended, and Third Reading. A Bills Table summarizes the history of the Bills passage through Parliament, with links to the corresponding Bills and debates of the Legislative Assembly (as published in the Hansard). Bills from the first Session, 36th Parliament of 1996 to the present are included.

Regulations

QP LegalEze publishes all regulations currently in force, including new and recently amended regulations. This current (early) consolidation of regulations is published in advance of the official print consolidation, which is published in loose-leaf format every four months. Regulations on QP LegalEze come from the BC Registrar of Regulations and are complete with graphics, tables and forms. Over 1,200 regulations can be accessed in the current consolidation on QP LegalEze. Amendments that have not yet come into force are also published on QP LegalEze, under the individual Acts.

A consolidation gives a snapshot view of all the regulations in force as they appeared at the end of the given time period. The current consolidation includes amendments made since the last official print consolidation.

Regulation Bulletins

The Regulation Bulletins provide a summary of regulations deposited with the Registrar of Regulations during a given week. A cumulative Bulletin lists all regulations deposited during a calendar year.

Each Bulletin is in alphabetical order by Act name and includes links to the full text Order-in-Council or Ministerial Order. Bulletins also link to the BC Gazette Part II, where new regulations are published by order of the Regulations Act. The Bulletins include data from 1999 to the present.

Archived Consolidations of Regulations

All regulation consolidations since April 2003 are archived in a searchable format. Archived consolidations published on QP LegalEze are based on the official loose-leaf printed version of the BC Statutes and Regulations.

Defunct Regulations

This listing links to the full text of all regulations repealed, replaced, spent or expired, including defunct regulations from August 1, 2003 up to the present. Defunct regulations are found in the list of updates folders.

Full Text Orders-in-Council

The Order-in-Council Administration Office provides Queen's Printer with the approved Orders-in-Council that have been passed by Cabinet. We scan the documents and post the full text on QP LegalEze, on a daily basis. Orders-in-Council from November 2001 to the present are included.

Resumes of Orders-in Council and Ministerial Orders

Resumes are reports of the decisions of the Lieutenant Governor in Council and of Ministers. They include the Order-in-Council or Ministerial Order number; the originating Ministry; the name of the Act which provides the authority for the Order; and a brief description of the subject matter. Resumes from January 1999 to the present are included.

Hansard

Hansard is the official printed record of the Debates of the Legislative Assembly. QP LegalEze provides the full text of debates from March 17, 2002 to the present. The debates are searchable by date, phrase, Members name, etc.

Gazette Part I

Produced under the authority of the Queen's Printer Act, the BC Gazette, Part I is published weekly. It contains legal and government notices such as public tenders, notices to creditors, land dispositions, timber licences, registrations of co-operatives and societies, and other notices. Issues from January 2003 to the present are included.

Gazette Part II

Under the Regulations Act, new Regulations must be published in Part II of the BC Gazette. QP LegalEze provides the complete text of all new, repealed and amended regulations deposited under the Regulations Act, in a fully searchable format. Issues from October 2001 to present are included.

Rules of Court

We provide the BC Rules of Court, and related enactments that govern court procedures in British Columbia, including: the Supreme Court Rules, Court of Appeal Rules, Criminal Rules; the Evidence Act, Family Relations Act, Jury Act, Law and Equity Act, BC Court of Appeal Act, Patients Property Act and more. 

Historical Supreme Court Rules

The Historical Supreme Court Rules contains the full text of BC Regulation 310/76 and BC Regulation 221/90, as originally enacted. These regulations have been published on QP LegalEze because they were not reproduced in full in the BC Gazette Part II at the time they were enacted; subsequent amendments to them were “gazetted”.

Corporate Registry Notices

Effective March 29, 2004, the Corporate Registry Notices of company and extra-provincial company filings are no longer published in the BC Gazette, Part I as per the new Business Corporations Act. QP LegalEze is now the official publisher of Corporate Registry notices, providing data from January 2003 to the present by subscription.

Registry Notices for co-operatives, societies and Restoration Applications continue to be published in The Gazette, Part 1.
