Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do we have to change companies immediately?
No, ministries can remain with their current carriers until contracts expire. The transition cost from Telus to Rogers is between $100 and $200. Based on plan cost savings and equipment included at no initial cost, it may be cost effective to switch immediately. These decisions will be made by the ministries.
If I am currently in a contract with a supplier, may I transition to their new price plan immediately or do I need to wait until my current contract expires?
If you are an existing Telus user then you may transition to the new price plan immediately by contacting Telus.
If you are an existing Rogers user then you may transfer to the new price plan immediately by contacting Rogers. You will be required to cancel your existing contract and pay any associated cancellation fees before being transferred to the new price plan. Alternatively, you may wait until your current contract expires before transferring to the new Rogers price plan.
What is the impact of collapsing 2 units- cellular phone and BlackBerry® - into one device?
Two devices are more than twice as expensive as one - two equipment costs, two system access fees, and double the administrative burden and cost. The new plans are designed to provide price breaks for equipment consolidation.
How will procurement patterns and the savings generated be tracked?
The carriers will be providing procurement and usage reports by ministry to both the ministries and the Province’s commodity manager.
What if I want to keep my old phone number?
The ADMs Corporate Services have determined that keeping a phone number is not a valid business reason for retaining one supplier over another. For example, if a standard category user currently has a Telus Mobility cell phone and service plan and requires a new cell phone or services plan, then they must go to Rogers Wireless. Keeping their phone number is not a valid reason for staying with Telus Mobility.
If I am a standard category user, but I travel to locations across the Province occasionally, does this make me a regional user?
The determination of which category a user fits into is based on the category that best suits the majority of their usage. For example, a user who works in Victoria, but travels to Fort St. John twice per year for a few days, would be considered a standard user, not a regional user.
What billing options are available?
