Access Canada

Accommodating Seniors and People with Disabilities

Access Canada is a program designed to meet the needs of seniors and people with disabilities using accommodation in B.C. Participating establishments will display the Access Canada logo with their designated level.

Access 3 For people with advanced agility, hearing, mobility, vision disabilities and independent wheelchair users

Access 1 For active seniors and people with minor disabilities

Air conditioning

Offering individual guest-controlled air conditioning at no extra charge. The property is fully air-conditioned or partially air-conditioned (not all rooms).

Only those properties, which are BC Tourism Approved (if applicable) are listed.

Business Meeting Centre

To assist government offices in the selection of a Business Meeting Centre, qualified properties have the Business Meeting Centre designation added to their listing. Business travellers are under no obligation to use Business Meeting Centres listed. To qualify as a Business Meeting Centre, properties must offer the following minimum facilities and services:

  • Minimum meeting room table seating for 15 people
  • Minimum audio - visual equipment available per meeting room:
    • Whiteboard / chalk board with markers - Overhead projector with screen
    • Video recorder / player, DVD format - Telephone in room
    • Access to facsimile machine (charge may apply)
    • Overnight accommodation for 10 or more guests
    • Flip chart with easel and Markers
    • Meeting / conference planner on staff
    • If requested, will invoice government office for all or part of the meeting costs
    • Able to prepare package plans that may include some meals and meeting facilities to suit the client's needs
    • High speed Internet access
    • Food catering available

Canada Select Ratings

5 Star Luxurious properties. Among the very best in the country in terms of their outstanding facilities, guest services, and quality provided.
4.5 Star Awarded to properties whose overall quality of facilities exceeds the 4 star rating.
4 Star Exceptional accommodations with an extensive range of facilities, guest amenities and services.
3.5 Star Awarded to properties whose overall quality of facilities exceeds the 3 star rating.
3 Star Above average accommodations with a greater range of facilities, guest amenities and services available.
2.5 Star Awarded to properties whose overall quality of facilities exceeds the 2 star rating.
2 Star Moderate accommodations with additional facilities and some amenities.
1.5 Star Awarded to properties whose overall quality of facilities exceeds the 1 star rating.
1 Star Modest accommodations meeting the Canada Select standards of cleanliness, comfort and safety.

Cancellation Policy

Indicates number of days that is required to cancel reservation.

Closest Airport

Name of local airport with regularly scheduled public air service.

Complimentary Shuttle Service

If the property offers or receives a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.

Conference Rooms

Number of conference rooms located at the classroom style maximum capacity for the property.

Average distance from airport to the property’s location by way of the usually travelled route.

Facilities

Supply of these services or features is not mandatory for listing on the BC Government Travel Accommodation list. They represent frequently requested services by the traveller. The services need not be provided free of charge to registered guests (except where noted).

For those properties that are not rated under. Access Canada but offer approved wheelchair accessibility.

The buildings are equipped with an approved sprinkler system throughout.

Note: Many properties do not have complete control over parking lots located in or around their premises, this rate is an average determined by the property at the time of proposal and may be subject to change without notice during the periods specified.

Phone calls

Calls that are placed room to room or to the local community that are free or a charge is assessed.

Photocopier / fax access

The property offers access to a photocopier and / or fax machine.

Refrigerators

The property offers rooms equipped with refrigerators and no kitchen facilities.

Resident meeting / conference planner

A full time meeting planner is a member of the property staff and is knowledgeable about local audio / visual / staging services and available to assist government staff plan meetings.

Restaurant

The property has a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and / or dinner. Hours may be limited.

Room service

The property will deliver meals to the guest's room. This service should be available from 7 a.m. to midnight.

24hr desk clerk / security staff; offers assistance to persons who may request accompaniment to their room; offers secure storage facilities for guests' valuables.

Smoke detectors

The buildings are equipped with smoke detectors and alarms in corridors, stair shafts and sleeping rooms.

Standard Accommodation (Room)

A standard room or accommodation is the normal room offered by the property. It should be clean, heated, with a bed and self-contained washroom (except where noted under types of establishments). The properties are required to supply a standard room, at the listed rate, if one is available. If the property is sold out of standard rooms they may offer a better quality room at the same rate, but are not obligated to do so unless the original room reservation was confirmed or guaranteed.

Suites

Rates offered include access to accommodation with separate sitting room with one or two adjoining bedrooms.
